Evelin Solyomvari was good for UH-Hilo and so was Mariya Heidenrich.

It wasn’t enough.

“Cal Baptist was just better,” coach Tino Reyes said.

The Lancers dropped the Vulcans 25-14, 20-25, 25-23, 25-17 on Thursday night in Riverside, Calif., the first of a swing that will see UH-Hilo play three matches in three nights.

“They passed and served better than we did,” Reyes said.

Facing a sweep, Heidenrich moved to outside hitter and Solyomvari played middle providing a spark for the Vulcans (4-4, 2-3 Pacific West Conference), who scored eight of the last 11 points of Game 3.

“Both did a great job to get us back in the match,” Reyes said.

Marley Strand-Nicolaisen led UH-Hilo with 17 kills, but she hit just .180.

Heidenrich managed eight kills on .580 hitting, while Solyomvari added six (.357).

Lauren Hackett had 17 kills for the Lancers (12-3, 5-2).
